SAPPHIRE Technology lancia la prima della nuova famiglia di schede grafiche basate sulla rivoluzionaria architettura grafica GCN (Graphics Core Next) di AMD.

SAPPHIRE HD7970 è la prima scheda grafica in assoluto ad incorporare l'ultima generazione di GPU di AMD, costruita sul nuovo processo produttivo da 28 nm, che presenta la nuova architettura di elaborazione grafica ottimizzata GCN. HD7970 è la GPU a singolo chip più potente mai costruita; ha una struttura interna con 32 unità di elaborazione e un totale di 2048 stream processors. Disponibile con velocità di core clock di 925MHz, per gli appassionati che desiderano massimizzare le prestazioni avrà disponibile fin dal lancio il tool di overclocking SAPPHIRE TriXX. La scheda è dotata di 3GB di memoria GDDR5 a 384 bit con larghezza di banda di 264 GB/sec.

La scheda SAPPHIRE HD7970 è predisposta per DirectX 11.1 e per il nuovo sistema operativo Windows 8 e garantisce inoltre le funzionalità DirectX 11 complete tra cui DirectCompute11 e la comunicazione multi threaded con la CPU. La comunicazione con il PC host è ottimizzata tramite l'implementazione della più recente interfaccia ad alta velocità PCI-Express Gen3.0, mentre per incrementare ulteriormente le prestazioni è possibile usare più schede in modalità CrossFireX con schede madri idonee.

Il lavoro o il gaming su più monitor si sta sempre più diffondendo tra gli utenti; SAPPHIRE HD7970 offre il supporto multi monitor con AMD Eyefinity. Grazie alle uscite DVI, HDMI e alle due mini-DisplayPort la scheda è in grado di supportare configurazioni comprendenti fino a 6 monitor; è inoltre la prima scheda grafica in grado di offrire l'output multiplo di stream audio indipendenti che consentono l'associazione dei contenuti audio corretti su monitor differenti in base alle diverse applicazioni.

Anche le specifiche HDMI sono incrementate nella serie HD7000. L’uscita fast HDMI 1.4a supporta la funzionalità Stereoscopic 3D con velocità di frame ottimizzate di 60Hz per occhio, per un totale di 120Hz. La scheda è predisposta anche per la nuova generazione di monitor da 4K che possono essere gestiti da un singolo ingresso ad alta velocità HDMI 1.4a a 3Ghz o DisplayPort 1.2 HBR2.

"APP Acceleration" è il nome dato ai tools di ottimizzazione delle prestazioni di una ampia gamma di applicazioni per sfruttare al massimo le funzionalità di stream processing e le specifiche di hardware della nuova architettura grafica. Le applicazioni tipiche includono encoding e decoding video, compressione e multiplazione per distribuzione di media, attività di gaming e videoconferenza; l’"APP Acceleration" migliora inoltre le attività più comuni come la navigazione Internet, le applicazioni Office e la compressione dei file con le suite di software supportati.

La SAPPHIRE HD7970 è in distribuzione ora presso la consolidata rete di partner e distributori SAPPHIRE. Il pacchetto retail di SAPPHIRE è quanto di meglio offra il mercato. Oltre al pacchetto standard, composto da adattatore attivo mini-DP/DVI per la configurazione Eyefinity, cavo bridge CrossFire, gli adattatori HDMI/DVI, DVI/VGA, di alimentazione 8 pin/4 pin e 6 pin/4 pin, SAPPHIRE fornisce un adattatore supplementare da mini-DP a DP e un cavo HDMI 1.4a da 1,8 m.

The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 is the first graphics card in the world to incorporate the latest generation of GPU’s from AMD built in a new 28nm process and featuring the new GCN optimised graphics processing architecture. The HD 7970 is the most powerful single chip GPU ever built. It has a new internal structure with 32 compute units and a total of 2048 Stream processors. It ships with a core clock speed of 925MHz, but for enthusiasts wishing to maximise performance, a new version of the SAPPHIRE overclocking tool, TriXX will be available from launch. A new 384-bit high speed memory interface with over 264GB/sec memory bandwidth connects to a large 3GB array of the latest DDR5 memory.

The HD 7000 series is the third generation of DirectX 11 compatible solutions from the graphics division of AMD - formerly ATI. The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 is ready for DirectX 11.1 and the new Windows 8 operating system as well as delivering all the features of the current DirectX 11 such as DirectCompute11 and multi threaded communications with the CPU. Communication with the host PC is optimised with the implementation of the latest high speed PCI-Express Gen3.0 interface, and multiple cards can be used to further enhance performance in CrossFireX mode on a suitably specified mainboard.

Working or gaming with multiple monitors is becoming increasingly popular, and the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 supports this with AMD Eyefinity. With its DVI, HDMI and two mini-DisplayPort outputs the card can support configurations of up to 6 monitors. In addition, the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 is the first graphics card that can simultaneously output multiple, independent audio streams allowing the correct audio content to be associated with different applications on different screens.

HDMI specifications have also increased in the HD 7000 series. Fast HDMI 1.4a supports Stereoscopic 3D with enhanced frame rates of 60Hz per eye - 120Hz total. It is also ready for the next generation of 4K displays that can be driven from a single high speed input of 3GHz HDMI 1.4a or DisplayPort 1.2 HBR2. APP Acceleration is the name given to the enhanced performance of a wide range of applications using the stream processing capabilities and specific hardware features of the graphics architecture. The HD 7000 series has been optimised for this type of task. Typical applications include Video encoding and decoding, compression and multiplexing for media distribution, gaming or video conferencing. APP acceleration can also enhance everyday tasks such as Internet browsing, Office applications and file compression with supported software suites.

The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 is the first in a new family of graphics cards in the HD 7000 series. It is shipping now through SAPPHIRE’s established channel and etail partners. In addition to the standard bundle consisting of an Active mini-DP to single-link DVI adaptor for Eyefinity setup, CrossFire bridge cable, HDMI to DVI adaptor for dual DVI setup, DVI to VGA adaptor, 8 pin to 4 pin power adaptor and 6 pin to 4 pin power adaptor, SAPPHIRE also provides an extra mini-DP to DP adaptor and a 1.8 metre HDMI 1.4a cable.
